Welcome

Thank you for stopping by to perv on my blog, as I fight myself to change my old habits and make new ones to get fit. I don't get it right all the time, but I'm still here and I'm still working at it.

Tamzins Double Dog Dare You Ticker!

My homage to the 14lbs that I lost on Allan’s DDDY Challenges. A watering can for the vast oceans of water that I have learned to drink and love every day.

Angry Math

Okay... you know I really hate this. I hate gaining. HATE IT. I also hate feeling like a lier. Which is what it feels like right now.

I just weighed in for the Phase 3 Challenge and I gained this week.

290lbs. That is +2 lbs from last week.

I'm really starting to feel the frustration of weight struggles. The math has been laid out. It is not even a choice, not an option. Math is logic. Logic is infallible.

If I calculate that I eat my max calories for today (1980) then I end up with a weekly caloric total of 13,860.5. This is .5 calories OVER my weekly allowance. That means that at 288 last week I should have lost 2.4lbs since to maintain a weight of 288 I would need 22,176 calories.

Here is the math:

So, there can be only a couple of things that is causing this to happen.

1. I am calculating my calories incorrectly.
2. I am lying about what I eat
3. ...?? I don't know.

So this is where the real frustration is. I am not lying about my intake. Everything that passes my lips get recorded calculated and accounted for. To gain 2lbs I would have had to have consumed an additional 15,000 calories.

I suppose its possible that I am not correct in some of my estimates on size and values. But.... I'm very sure that I did not miss calculate by 15,000 calories. That is more than the total of the food that I ate this week.

OMG...I am going to get some breakfast and go for a walk and try to not think about this for a little while.

Oh, darlin, I am sorry to see a gain but speaking as a woman (I have experience after all, lol), the scale can just not be our friend sometimes. Perhaps it's sodium bloat from last night or some extra food in the ol' colon :( I know I have had gains and plateaus when there was absolutely no reason for it. Stick with it. I am sure you'll have a drop tomorrow. Do you weigh daily or weekly? I know you post weekly but just on your own, do you also weigh daily?

I'm really sorry to see that happen to you. It's really not fair that for some people, it's so much harder to lose weight. I have to eat a ful 1,000 calories below what's reccommended for me to stay at my same weight without losing.

It's really a struggle, for you and I both. Whatever you do, though, don't give up. I've given up a few times in the past (as I'm sure everyone has with weight loss), and it's only lead to a big gain.

Keep going, you can do it, just push forward.

Now that I just read your previous post, I think the weight gain this week was caused by last night when you went out. You were good the rest of the week, and then ate too much the day before you weigh in.

DEFINITELY don't get discouraged. Keep going and do well this week, and your weigh in next Sunday is sure to be a good one! :)

How is your sodium?
How is your sugar?
Do you maybe need to cut some carbs?

These are all questions that may be contributing to the gain when you have been logging your food as well as you have. I don't think you are a liar. I think you are really, really trying.

But a calorie is not a calorie. There are some that are better than others in helping us take off the weight.

Analyze what you are putting into your mouth vs. just the calories of it.

the truth is that weight and the body are NOT going to ever be exact. You can't map it out with numbers and expect it to happen exactly that way. the body is a living system of organs, and it's more about consistency. Keep doing what you're doing, staying within the calorie range that you have set up, and weighing in weekly. Water, salt, hormones, etc. all play factors in your weight. I can lose and gain 5-10 pounds of water in a day if i manipulate it right. Just keep on trucking and don't get so caught up in the numbers. if you are staying true to your plan, the pounds WILL come off eventually. just have faith.

Could be sodium, hormones, or just plain old plumbing. Those are the top 3 suspects when my scale decides to be a douche. Don't let it get you down, give it a few days, stay on plan, and it will come back off! Fiber bars and extra water usually help me when I know I haven't gone over.. TMI, but thought I'd share ;)

Oh, that is so frustrating. But, there are a dozen reason this can happen, and most are temporary blips. If you reviewed what you ate, and didn't see any holes to plug or obvious things to fix (like too much salt), it could also be hormonal. See what the next weigh-in looks like, before letting that frustration get to you. In the meanwhile, stick to your plan and you will do well.

I already had a good cry about it today. I'm done with that.

I just have to carry on with the good habits, eating right and not too much, counting my calories and trust that its going to happen!

Thanks all, your support is most appreciated.
