Welcome

Thank you for stopping by to perv on my blog, as I fight myself to change my old habits and make new ones to get fit. I don't get it right all the time, but I'm still here and I'm still working at it.

Tamzins Double Dog Dare You Ticker!

My homage to the 14lbs that I lost on Allan’s DDDY Challenges. A watering can for the vast oceans of water that I have learned to drink and love every day.

Thursday Run done!

Well, my legs have been hurting but having a buddy to motivate me to get out there is great. Met up at 6.30 for a 30+ run.

Warm up 5min walking.
5min running
1min walking
5x's
ended with a shorter walk.

It was hard, but I did it and there is only progress to be made. Sunday we are going to do a 3mile walk with speedy and slower walking intervals. Our "long slow run" of the week, until we build up a bit more.

Also last night did 60 min of some light weights. Throwing shot put and some other fun stuff for the highland games. My shoulder was sore, but I did light and was good and warm when I started.

Last night I slept like a baby. Neck and sholder feel even BETTER today, so that is awesome news.

okay - almost lunch and the boss has a meeting so I have to go and get thiers. Time to "run"! haha

Done and Done!

I almost talked myself out of exercising today - but that little nagging voice that is hard to hear got through today.

1. I went right to the gym and got my first weights session of the week done. My lower back is sore from a run in with the garbage bag yesterday... I won, but there was a price! I did 3 sets of 10 reps of military press (15lb bells), bicep curls (15lbs) and leg press (195lbs).

and then

2. Stopped on the way home for a 30min power walk... Oh how I have missed you Shakira's She Wolf. Love that song. Dusted off the ipod and enjoyed some tunes.

Mr.Tamzin is out of town working, so I was on my own today... he should be back for dinner tomorrow. It was good to get out on my own and have some time to just walk and get lost in the sky/clouds and my own thoughts.

Dinner was good - Amy's Tomato Bisque (so good like squishing a ripe tomato right into your mouth...if you like that kind of thing that is!), and some low fat grilled cheese and pickles. My fav.

Small Efforts today:
1. ate all my breakfast - even the yogurt that wasn't stirred in!
2. ate a plum instead of a Larabar. Caloric savings of 200
3. used pam to grill my cheese sandwiches

Now..time to lay down, relax and do some reading... and watch TMZ

Caved

Well ....finally today I went and get those damn M&M's. I caved. I have stayed under calories and ate 11 servings of fruit/veggies today, so that is good, but .... I did eat a bag of M&M's while there were strawberries in the fridge.

Oh no...Lisa just commented while I was writing this - about how great I was doing to resist these... I feel shame. :( Lisa - thank you for the reminder that I could do without!

Today's Victory was pretty special though! After a long day at the office (in early - no lunch break - this is our busy week), I convinced myself to do my weights workout before heading home. I literally said to myself, "Because you DO NOT want to do this, MEANS that you should"!!!

45min later and I was on my way home. Feels good. 10min elliptical warm up, 3 sets of 10 reps each arm Dumbbell snatches. 1x with 25lb weight, the last 2 with 20lbs weight.

Dinner was a lovely bit of leftovers and now I'm going to try and drink some more water, perv some blogs and get to bed early! Up to the office early tomorrow as well... this is the hell week.

Monday...TGIO

thats Thank Gawds Its Over!

This is the start of my hell week at the office. Tis our very busy week and its getting started in a massive way. I have to be very conscious this week to get up and move around as much as possible, as well as drink MORE water.

I had a good salad (greens, pear, grapes, red onion, goat cheese, and pecans!) and enjoyed my home made left over Butternut squash mac&cheese! Yum Yum. But worked through my lunch hour and didn't get up and about much today. I had 11 servings of veggies today. That made me happy!

However, I have not had enough water - this is going to have to change.

All afternoon I obsessed over diet coke and peanut M&M's. I emailed 2 friends to tell me NOT to get and get them. I didn't.

I hate that these kinds of things creep up and take hold of my brain and then it spends most of its time trying to convince me to go and get some.....I ate 2 servings of Whole Wheat goldfish. which is MORE calories than the little bag of peanut M&M's...but I think I made the right choice.

I sneaked in my weights session after work - 10min warm up (5 on the treadmill and 5 on the elliptical). Did my dumbbell snatches. 3 sets of 10 each arm. First set was with a 25lbs one, the last 2 were with a 20lbs bell.

Arrived home to husband making a lovely dinner of colcannon (ours was red and russet potatoes, 1 head of savoy cabbage, 1 bunch of kale, 2 slices of Canadian bacon chopped up, 1 can of corned beef, 1 large yellow onion, 4 cloves garlic and low fat milk and low fat margarine). It was quite delish and not too bad on calories... I fear for what all that cabbage is going to do to me tomorrow...but...I will just have to deal with that when it comes! *toot toot* haha

Wasted a fair amount of time on tv and surfing the net. I should be reading and relaxing and that... is where I am going now.

Happy End of Monday Everyone!

Hump Day Done!

I need more sleep.... and water.

Today was excellent (apart from not getting enough water). Ate well - just under my calories with lots of fruit and veg.

I skipped my lunchtime workout... BUT .... I went right after work and did my quick 30min weights! 3 sets dumbbell snatches with 20lbs weights. 10 each arm. Did my 40 crunches.

Feels good.

Bedtime.....Now!

Here I go again

Last night post workout I did my first weigh in for several months. And I'm back up to where I started in November 2008. So a year later, and I'm at 281.8lbs, so really I'm a pound more then when I started a ear ago.

Depressing... yes, but no so depressing that I won't start this over. There is so much new going on right now with my life, that really - its okay. Its the jumping in point that I need.

Last night was gym time with hubby and friend.

10min elliptical
seated military press - 25lbs x2
Incline bench press - 35lbs x2
drag curls - 15lbs x2
lat pulldowns - 100lbs
decline bench press - 35lbs x2

we did 4 reps of each exercise, and it was... HARD! I've not lifted weights for a good 4 months!! My shoulders and back are aching today. But the good ache, so I'm pleased.

Tonight is step class, so I'm looking forward to that. Must get some more water in me!

Tomorrow... more thinking on my goals and what I want to do here. And how I'm going to do it.

before I chicken the Eff out....

I had best post about it!!!!

I have plans to go to the gym at lunch.

I am going to do:

10min warm up on some or t'other cardio machine (elliptical I hope).
20x bell rings (like that kettle bell thingy but with a dumbbell)
15x overhead presses with bar
10x each side Turkish get-ups
Some stretching and an exceedingly hot shower and back to the office to suffer for the rest of hte day! haha

I don't know what I'm going to use for weights... but I think that 10lbs bells and a 50lb bar will be good enough to start with. If it gets too hard... I'll drop it down.

I walked in to the office today - 2.8km and I brought in my massive tub o' fruit again this week. 1% cottage cheese and a mix of grapes, honeydew, cantaloupe and watermelon, strawberries, blueberries and nectarines. YUM.

okay... back to work for another hour - then...GYM TIME.

Stair MASTER!

I hobbled around the office like I was 100 years old today - but it did force me to drink more water (in the hope that it would help flush out the lactic acid in my poor legs). I have to say though, that I did enjoy the stairs, and today... I did it again.

18 steps between floors x 26 floors = 468 steps. I felt every one of them. So did my calves, my quads and my butt(s).

I did get to the gym, but I skipped my leg weights. I didn't know if I would be able to finish then AND walk home after. As it was I shuffled home at half pace - but I did it. Victory!

10min elliptical warm up
Lat pull downs - 70 x10, 2s 100 x 6r, 2s 90 x 6r
bicep curls - 17.5 x 10, 2s 20 x 6r, 2s 22.5 x 6r
military press - 5s 22.5 x 6r
chest press - 5s 22.5 x 6r
abs x ball work.

Tonight's dinner was veggie frittata. 1 egg, 1/3c egg whites, red onion, asparagus, spinach, deli chicken breast and feta cheese on top. One grilled whole wheat wrap and 1/2c hot salsa. It was tastier then it looks! :)

Dessert tonight is cashew/macadamia nutbutter with my Strawberry & Grand Marnier jam (yes...its as lush as it sounds) rolled in a wrap and a 1/4c cottage cheese.

Bed early tonight. I'm totally beat.

Tuesday Weights

I'm happy that I didn't let yesterdays pitfall trap me like it typically would have. Today I ate well, even resisted the treats that were out all day in the office kitchen...not that it was too hard since I felt more guilt then hunger.

Post work I went the the gym and did my weights session and it really does help the mood. I can't tell you how good it felt to get out of my tights and into my shorts!! FREEDOM!!!

Elliptical - 10min warm up (worked hard)

Bicep curls - 4s 20lbs x6r

Chest Press(on the ball) - 20 x10 - 4s 22.5 x 6r
Abs - 5 x 20r various crunches.

All in all it was good, ate my giant green apple on the way home, walked. Chatted with the most excellent hubby for a little while as I was walking, then hung up and power walked the rest of the way home.

Tonight's dinner porn is:
1/2 avocado, 1 tin of drained tuna (in water), 2 slices of low fat Swiss cheese on top of 2 slices of organic flax bread and then grilled in the oven.

Spinach "salad", 1/2 tomato, and x-virgin olive oil/balsamic vinegar dressing. Now I'm fixing a mug of mint tea.

Tomorrow is a new day and another start. :)

Winning Wednesday

Well I managed to not have any treats today at the office! YAY! I also didn't want to go to the gym after work, but I talked myself into going by telling myself that I could do a half session if I felt too tired. Once I was there it turned out great and I really enjoyed it and even added a couple things to my circuit. Ah the power of the mind. Plus Husband is out at Quiz/Pub Night, so there was no need to be home early!

10 min warm up on elliptical machine.
Hamstring Curls - w/u 60lbs x10reps - 2sets 110lbs x 6reps, 2sets 115lbs x 6reps
Leg Press - w/u 215 x 10 - 4s 315 x 6 r

Chest Press(on the ball) - w/u 20x10 - 4s 20 x 6r
Abs - 5 x 20r various crunches.
Walked home

I'm really pleased about this one - as I was wondering how being off sick yesterday was going to effect my new efforts...would I fall into the old trap of - "well I didn't do it yesterday, so today is going to be hard, maybe I should just go home and rest some more" (with pizza/ice cream to make myself feel better and then bargain with myself about how much I'm going to do re: the impossible, and then never be able to do it and wallow in self pity more etc). Instead, I just did it.

A small first victory. I'm sure that there will be plenty more battles to fight with as I try to change my lifetime of bad habits. For now, I'm going to toot the horn and wave the banner though.

Allison over at Doublechinned (I've been reading her blog for a while) posted an interesting question, which I felt has real relevance to my day so I posted a long winded answer. But I think that I'm going to try and take some of my observations and "eat the elephant one bite at a time".

Yum, wheres the mustard!

Saturday Goal Met

Confession....I ate ice cream last night.......and I didn't like it. HAHAHA Holy karmic joke on me. 'Tis funny to have ice cream in the house that I can take or leave, instead of fantasize about eating out of the carton with a spoon with the freezer door open, but also good - since I will be able to tell myself I can't buy anymore while there is ice cream already at home. Win Win!

I got up today and went to the office for a couple hours, then left and went to the gym.
10 min warm up on elliptical machine.
Leg Press - 195x10 4 set of 295 x 6 reps
Calf Press - 195 x10, 295 4s x 5 reps
Hamstring Curls - 60x10 2s 100x 7r, 2s 105 x6r
Leg Extensions - 60x10 4s 100x 6rep
Lat Pull downs - 60x10 2r 90x 6r, 2r 95 x 6r
Military Press - 20 x10, 4s 25 x 6r
Bicep curls - 5s 20lbs x6r
Abs - 4 x 20r various crunches.
Lots of stretching!! I need it.

I'm really pleased with this session, I lifted more weights and generally felt a stronger. Even in one short week I've been noticing that with my increased activity I'm sleeping better. Its a good feeling.

I'm totally nervous about my weight in on Monday. The desire to lose weight is only eclipsed by the fear that I will take (again) the attitude that "this is easy pease lemon squeezey, why am I trying so hard". Well... I guess this is where the blog comes into play. Remaining ever vigilent!

Also a very quick thank you to the kind companions that have commented here! Thank you - its good to know that someone is watching!!!

Tonight I have a very late American Thanksgiving dinner. I'm bringing this amazing sprout recipe (except no cheese) and after getting to read all the posts from the blogoshere about every ones struggles, I'm going to have a healthy snack before I arrive, and then take small portion and eat slow and enjoy my food... there is always more if I need some.

I have also just posted a goal with another blogger Carolyn, 15lbs to shed from December 1st to February 1st. 2 Months. I can do it!!

Twas good! Got off an hour early from work today, and headed to the gym. Walked home 1.5km. I need to start doing more stretching. I'm pretty sure that if I hadn't been poked about my goals that I would have skipped this one for an early night home. But its a good feeling, that warmth...I think tomorrow I'm going to be sore. All the better to drink MORE water. I <3 you DOMS.
