Welcome

Thank you for stopping by to perv on my blog, as I fight myself to change my old habits and make new ones to get fit. I don't get it right all the time, but I'm still here and I'm still working at it.

Tamzins Double Dog Dare You Ticker!

My homage to the 14lbs that I lost on Allan’s DDDY Challenges. A watering can for the vast oceans of water that I have learned to drink and love every day.

Halloween Candy

was my undoing today.

I had one mini reese dark PB cup - which quickly turned into an all consuming need to EAT CANDY. I had 6. While doing mental math on what I was giving up to clear the way for these.

I ended up skipping my afternoon greek yogurt (which is not good... trading good fat for bad fat...) but regardless. I've managed to stay on track for the most part.

Mentally. I had already confirmed that I would never be dipping into the desk candy bowls. I skipped the catered breakfast today and ignored the "pumpkin muffin treats" that came around this afternoon.

But then... I opened my drawer and there they were... the chocolates I had put aside for myself. Hard to resist when you specifically saved them for yourself ... right?! Right (said the fat chick)!

I then went on Calorie King and was disgusted. UGGGGG

Today's food was good other than that blip. We did a 30min walk after work and I had a good dinner. I feel the urge to snack right now but I'm going to bed in short order.

Medium Americano (My Fit Foods)*
1 coffee & 3 creamers
Pancakes - blueberry (MFF)
Medium Salmon Stir fry (MFF)
6 Mini Reese's darks pb cups
Large Pink Lady Apple
Medium Ninja Tenderloin (MFF)
2 Tbsp HP sauce

Totals:
Calories: 2176 Fats (g): 69.4 Carbs: 217.8 Proteins: 164

I'm going to give today an 8 out of 10. I could have done more stretching while watching the Biggest Loser.

*I've talked about My Fit Foods before... and I will again. Right now, they are my savior. Of course, its not cheap. But its good, filling, very good actually and keeping me from feeding myself with portions that are 2x the size I need.

Getting Started!

I did pretty good for goals yesterday, not 100% but it was day one and there was bound to be some hick-ups.

Goals 1 & 2 were out since I made them after getting to work.

Goal 3: Bed at 11.30
I was in the bathroom getting ready for bed at 11.30 last night...rushing. Then, in a fit of avoidance...don't ask me why, since I don't have a clue....I decided that I needed to wax my arm pits (yes...I'm sorry gentle readers, but since you are here reading, its too late to take that image from your head!). Of course, I've been doing this on my own for a long time so it took 5min (and really isn't that painful!). Then the typical zit picking, face-washing, and tooth inspection...I was in bed at 11.50pm. Better then usual and closer to the goal. I do need to get started in there sooner!

Goal 4. N/A

Goal 5: Push ups
I got home and thought - I should do my pushup!!! Then I got busy and did a few things and forgot. Then I remember when I was in bed already and I didn't get out and do it, mostly since the though of doing a push up naked in my bedroom was .... laughable. I am going to do them tonight though and I'll do yesterdays today...I hope that I can actually do three push ups! haha! :)

Today has been better.

Goal1 - Done. Got up - ate a pot of yogurt. Thought about the banana, but saved it.
Goal2 - Done. Walked to work and actually, did feel much better all morning for it.
Goal3 - Done. 11.13pm...and I'm going to bed!!!!!!!
Goal4 - n/a
Goal 5 - Done....but only just! LOL omg...I can only do three full pushups.

In general food has been good today - last night I ran a bunch of errands including getting top the grocery store. I'm so happy to have more good foods in the house!!!

Bfast1 - activia yogurt
Bfast2 - banana, 2 coffees with cream
Snack1 - Key Lime Lara bar (OMG YUM!)
Snack 2 - 1 sm tin tuna, 4 rye crackers 2 laughing cow lite cheese
Lunch - Tim Hortons chili, sm coffee w/1 cream, whole wheat bun, and (don't read this) a honey cruller
Snack 3 - 15 green grapes and an orange jello(left over from post surgery food)
Snack 4 - 4 slices turkey breast, 2 laughing cow cheese
Dinner - spinach & feta egg white scramble, 1 whole wheat pita, 1T becel.
Snack 5: 1c plain yogurt, 1.5T honey, 1 handful walnuts

Water Report

Morning - 800ml
Lunch - 600ml
Post lunch - 700ml
Total - 2,100ml

400ml left! I CAN DO EET!!!

Catch up & a Daily Goal

Thursday was pretty uninteresting.

Bfast:
Oatmeal Pancake (plain)
Banana
Clementines x2
Coffee
Lunch:
Large Falafel Pita with lots of veggies and humus

Snack1:
8 small chocolate Easter eggs
Snack 2:

banana
Clementines x2
Snack3:
4 slices turkey breast
Dinner:
6 small slices rye bread
5 oz mozzarella cheese
2T becel
1c Butternut Squash Soup
3 dill pickles

Dinner was… not great. I wanted grilled cheese and soup - I love the bread!!! I've noticed that I've been going a little more out of the normal with chocolate this last bit. I know that I shouldn’t but I still talk myself into it.

I need to get my butt moving more. I did manage to make myself walk the whole way home after work, the sun was out - so it was an easy choice to make. I love me some sunshine! I have to say that my body is still sore from the yoga class on Wednesday…even now I'm I'm sitting I can feel it in my shoulders. Tis a good feeling though.

Tonight is running - I've not been out running in so long now with being sick and the weather getting crappy…that I know its going to be a real struggle tonight. I'm still going to go and do it though!

Today my goal is to drink 2.5L of water before I leave the office tonight. So far... 600ml down 1,900 to go!

At the risk of jinxing myself

I jumped on the scale this morning and I weighed in at 269.8. I had to do it about 4 times for me to register that this was real. Left foot first.... then right foot first. Just in case it was a mirage.

I haven't been in the 260's in a looong time. And you know what - I was thinking that today I would go out for lunch... but nope. Not anymore - I'm going to eat the lunch I have and be happy and frugal and keep the habit.

I don't know if I've just jinxed myself by posting this, but I hope not. I'm excited to see what a good weekend of eating, proper rest and lots of water will do for my weigh in on Monday.

April 1 - goal weight is 259. You know - that actually seems attainable now with some work. Whereas before ...not so much.

I guess I need to post some new piccies too. This coming Monday I'll have to get out the camera!

and the show must go on....

I really didn't feel like blogging last night, or today. I was in the mood for a great big pity party... but... in actual fact the only person who I am punishing if I unplug from this is me. Blogging is a really important tool for me and this weight loss jazz!

anyway..... The show must go on. Its good to read, see what everyone else is doing, post and struggle onward.

I also wanted to thank all who commented yesterday. I read those at the office and they really give a fresh set of eyes to my situation. I appreciate those a lot.

I have done a fair amount of bad things & good things, however, today's post is going to focus on ALL THE GOOD! Hows that for a change!

Yesterday:
  • walked to work
  • drank lots of water
  • walked home
  • went running 7sets of 2min running 1min walking for about 2.5km
  • bought healthy food (big box of cutie clementines! omg yum).
  • went to bed early
  • had a good sleep
Today:
  • packed a lunch
  • felt more alert then usual
  • enjoyed my day at the office
  • went running after work - 5sets of 3min running and 1min walking! 2.5km
  • walked home after running - another 2km
  • realized that I wasn't actually hungry so had some fruit for dinner and a bowl of plain yogurt with honey&walnuts. I'm feeling peckish right now. Might get a small snack.
  • caught up with a friend who was on msn that I havn't talked to in ages. He is in a tough place and he felt better after using me for a sounding board and I feel great after getting to be useful.
I start my yoga class this Sunday after my run in the morning. I can't even tell you how excited I am about getting to give that a try.

Good Night All. I'm about to set out to perv upon your posts before bed time!!

Jiggly Butt

Last Friday was my first "real" run outside and it was pretty darn good actually. I did feel a little like the class clown, I have to remind myself not to be too loud in our group sessions pre-run. lol I got the evils from the instructor! oops!

We ran 1min segments and walked for 2minutes between 7 times and covered 3km. I'm not panting, sweating or heaving by any stretch, this is a very gentle slow moving course that builds gradually, but its still great for the mind and the body. I really wanted to start off slow and enjoy myself! Which I am.

Tonight's run was a "training" run and our little band of runners met up and did our 7 sets of "1 and 2's" with some walking for warm up and cool down at either end. I have to say, it was perhaps the most pleasant way to end a day of work. Plus its nicer to be in a group of slow moving "runner" so that you don't stand out all alone with people zipping by you. Ah, safety in numbers. :) Plus I hid in the middle so that no one running up on us can see my jiggly butt!

Food today was 50/50.

Bfast:
1c almond milk
1med coffee with cream
1 protein powder, flax seed and 1/2c whole oats

Lunch (early at 11.40am):
starter green salad (lovely mix) with 1T blue cheese dressing
1 burger with fries
Snack1:
1 protein bar (post run)
Dinner:
large bowl mixed greens
1/2 green apple
3oz Stilton
2T red onion
6oz turkey breast
6 Raincoast Crisps (cranberry & pecan)
Snack2:
unsure....we'll see if I need anything tonight or not.

I have to say that pre-lunch I was hungry - but I didn't even feel like nibbling on anything this afternoon after my big lunch. Not even before my run. YAY!

Water - still not great 1.5L so far and I need to get another at least 1L in me before bed.

Today was also TREAT DAY at the office. I wasn't even remotely tempted... that was a total non-scale victory for me. I didn't go in and ogle the donuts, sniff them, take one and throw it out. In fact, I got the "treats are here" email and promptly forgot all about it.

Not a bad mid-week day. Tomorrow...packed lunch and MORE WATER.

Monday Goals (and a WI)

Well I arrived this morning to a bunch of home made cookies on my desk...ARG! I understand that the person who makes them is proud and enjoys baking. Now I have to try and pawn them off on everyone that comes by so that I don't eat them. Who the he-ll things that I would "need" a dozen cookies? Are they blind?

My goal today - I'm not going to eat any. (there are now only 3 left after I've done typing this. Sadly, everyone who has taken one has expressed to be thier guilt about eating a cookie, I guess I'm a fat agony aunt...perhaps they think that I can relate...I suppose that I can).

Weigh-in this morning - 275lbs. Up 1.8lbs.

Ug... this is an annoying pattern for me. I don't post it here- but I do weight myself every morning. I realize that there are some people who set up camp in "daily weigh ins are not good" and the other camp where "daily weigh ins are good".

I post once a week and try to not let the daily fluctuations bother me. I feel that right now I need the daily scale-step to keep me totally cognisant of what I'm doing and how that is manifested in my weight. I think that I can easily slip into a pattern of gaining over a week unless I see the numbers. I would imagine that this will change further down the path. But for now - its daily. Course...I'm gaining - and I'm weighing in daily... fug.

However, that being said, I seem to always weigh-in lighter on Tuesday mornings then Mondays...If that happens again tomorrow, then I'm changing weight in day to Tuesdays.

The best part about this patterns ups and downs is that the higher days are now lighter then they used to be - so I'm looking at that is moving in the right direction. So I'll take a mini-win for that. Two steps down and one step up... I can handle that.

Friday Nosh

Today I'm feeling better - just over 7 hours of sleep last night, I know that has a lot to do with it. I was looking back through my past few days of eating and there is a significant lack of greens... so I shouldn't have been surprised that I had all those cravings come up.

Today's lunch was a massive spinach salad to pump me full of the good stuff again.

Bfast:
1/4c oatmeal/flax/protein powder - the rest of it was blow up in the nuker! Oops
1 coffee with 2 mini creamers
1 Kashi peanut butter granola bar
Snack1:
1 med skim milk mocha latte (little bit of whip)
Lunch:
2c spinach, 1 hard boiled egg, 2slices of pickled beets, 1/4c sprouts, 3oz ham, 3 broccoli spears, 1/4c mushrooms, 2T black olives, 1T ranch dressing
1 whole grain bun, 1tsp butter
1slice homemade banana bread (could not resist)
Snack2:
1/2c Activia Apple&Grain Yogurt
Snack3:
banana
Snack4: (post walking home)

2x Kashi bar with 2tbsp cashew nut butter
Dinner:
1 12" roasted chicken sub with veggies from the evil empire known as Subway...even though I read that post by Tony at the Anti-Jared, I just couldn't get my sh*t together to cook tonight. 1 small bag of salt and vinegar chips and 1/2 can diet coke
(Happily I couldn't bring myself to finish it...Yay coke has become almost unpalatable).

This is really NOT much of a great evening, given the dinner and the pre-dinner snacks. Its another cope out really - where I wanted MUCH MUCH worse things and this was the healthiest that I was going to settle for tonight. I shall have to ensure that I up the activity. Also NOTE TO TAMZIN... do NOT let yourself get too hungry, that really limits your ability to make good rational choices...it will only end in tears on Monday morning on the scale...END NOTE.

Water: Good 3L day AND I'm not peeing anywhere as much as I used to! weeee!

Exercise: walked TO work (1km) and then walked HOME from work (1.5km). Not as much as I was hoping to get in, (insert bevy of excuses here) but I'm getting more regular in getting more in daily. So as long as I keep moving in that direction... I'm making progress.

So, nothing revolutionary for sure, but a good Friday to end the week...even though it seems likely that I'm going to be back in here tomorrow.

Stair MASTER!

I hobbled around the office like I was 100 years old today - but it did force me to drink more water (in the hope that it would help flush out the lactic acid in my poor legs). I have to say though, that I did enjoy the stairs, and today... I did it again.

18 steps between floors x 26 floors = 468 steps. I felt every one of them. So did my calves, my quads and my butt(s).

I did get to the gym, but I skipped my leg weights. I didn't know if I would be able to finish then AND walk home after. As it was I shuffled home at half pace - but I did it. Victory!

10min elliptical warm up
Lat pull downs - 70 x10, 2s 100 x 6r, 2s 90 x 6r
bicep curls - 17.5 x 10, 2s 20 x 6r, 2s 22.5 x 6r
military press - 5s 22.5 x 6r
chest press - 5s 22.5 x 6r
abs x ball work.

Tonight's dinner was veggie frittata. 1 egg, 1/3c egg whites, red onion, asparagus, spinach, deli chicken breast and feta cheese on top. One grilled whole wheat wrap and 1/2c hot salsa. It was tastier then it looks! :)

Dessert tonight is cashew/macadamia nutbutter with my Strawberry & Grand Marnier jam (yes...its as lush as it sounds) rolled in a wrap and a 1/4c cottage cheese.

Bed early tonight. I'm totally beat.

Weight In Monday

I have to say that I have been waiting all day to post this. I got up this morning and was not really too keen to step onto the scales for the "bad news". BUT... it wasn't!
Current weight 278.6 which is a 1.2lbs loss this week.
Even better is that my inches went down 1.1 Inches!!

Other great news was that I was able to renew my gym membership in my office building today so I can keep working out in my most lovely convenient space. Hurray!

So other then being totally flat out at work today and working overtime tonight and getting in late to my blogging, I have such good news to post. I am not on target to lose 15lbs by Feb 1st... yet! This weeks activity will be ramped up I'm sure, and I might try to get in some extra lunchtime cardio on my weights days now.

Me = Very pleased!

Here is a little pic of my breakfast and lunch (packed last night) for today since I know that Katschi loves them!

BF - Banana, 1% cottage cheese, yogurt, oatmeal & berries.
Lunch - Mini pita breads, Swiss cheese, deli chicken breast, tomato & sprout sammiches, salad from last nights dinner.
Snacks - Hummus with carrots & snap peas, apple, pear, avocado.
I actually didn't eat it all today, and wasn't hungry. Happy Days

Winning Wednesday

Well I managed to not have any treats today at the office! YAY! I also didn't want to go to the gym after work, but I talked myself into going by telling myself that I could do a half session if I felt too tired. Once I was there it turned out great and I really enjoyed it and even added a couple things to my circuit. Ah the power of the mind. Plus Husband is out at Quiz/Pub Night, so there was no need to be home early!

Walked home

I'm really pleased about this one - as I was wondering how being off sick yesterday was going to effect my new efforts...would I fall into the old trap of - "well I didn't do it yesterday, so today is going to be hard, maybe I should just go home and rest some more" (with pizza/ice cream to make myself feel better and then bargain with myself about how much I'm going to do re: the impossible, and then never be able to do it and wallow in self pity more etc). Instead, I just did it.

A small first victory. I'm sure that there will be plenty more battles to fight with as I try to change my lifetime of bad habits. For now, I'm going to toot the horn and wave the banner though.

Allison over at Doublechinned (I've been reading her blog for a while) posted an interesting question, which I felt has real relevance to my day so I posted a long winded answer. But I think that I'm going to try and take some of my observations and "eat the elephant one bite at a time".

Yum, wheres the mustard!
